ancient wisdom for modern living

Yoga Therapy -
Adapting the practice of yoga to meet your needs.

Yoga therapy is the application of yoga techniques to meet the current needs and interests of the individual - it's co-creating together personalised solutions just for you.  It is an integrated mind-body approach based on your personal goals and desires.

Whereas a group yoga class can never be totally specific to one person's needs, there will often be a theme or focus but it's not designed to meet any one persons needs. Yoga Therapy is a way of adapting yoga to meet us where we are and help create transformation. We weave in to a session yogic tools and techniques that are designed to suit the person in front of us.

Yoga therapy may be used to address a very specific challenge, be that physical, mental or emotional.  It might be more about navigating a difficult time in your life.  Yoga therapy can be used to reduce symptoms of illness or injury and manage pain, establish more functional breath and movement patterns or offer valuable solutions to improve quality of life.  In essence its yoga personalised for you.

What is yoga therapy?

The answer is simple, anyone.

The yogic model of health is unique in that it addresses all aspects of life rather than simply seeing body parts and body systems and considering them as separate.

Because yoga itself offers tools that touch the whole human experience, yoga therapy can help with a wide range of concerns. It is a safe way to work with the natural capacity of your body and mind to find your way to well-being.

Who might benefit
from Yoga Therapy?

What you can expect

Before you come for your first session you will be sent a short health questionnaire form to complete and return at least 48 hours before the first session, it will be a good starting point for when we meet.

We will explore what you would like to address and then together we will develop a yoga practise based on your needs. You will have a chance to practise it in the session, and it will also be scribed for you so you have the notes from the session to use at home. We can then modify and adapt your personalised practise as we move forwards together.

You don't need to have any prior experience of yoga to come for yoga therapy, you may have never done it before, or you have have done many group classes but feel yoga therapy could offer something different to help you with a specific need, goal or desire that you have.

Initial intake sessions are 90 mins (max) long and follow up sessions are usually 60 (75 max) minutes long,  the content of each session depends on the overall goal of doing yoga therapy and also the immediate needs of the day.

Sessions are held in person or on zoom.  It is also possible to have sessions in your own home for an additional fee, depending on location.

How you might use yoga therapy

Book a discovery call: A chance for us to connect, for you to ask any questions you might have and to see if we’re a good fit for each other.

Healing happens over time and often over a number of sessions, depending on what you need. Each session builds on the previous one and each one equips you with tools and techniques to take away and use independently.

Some of my clients have been with me for years, and I accompany them through life’s challenges and ups and downs. Being in the midst of it all is a great way to apply the tools and gain insights about yourself.  I see others for six to eight sessions, and they leave feeling self-empowered and equipped with a toolbox to support them.

We can discuss on our call what is best for you and then if it feels right, we can book and get started.  You can click below to request a call.
